Personal Financial Planning: Experiential Learning Space
The Personal Financial Planning department has the opportunity to expand experiential learning opportunities for current students through off campus outreach. We are currently in the early stages of renovating space in the Texas Tech Plaza (19th and University). This will include training space, individual offices for financial counseling, and observation classrooms. Specifically, we plan to use this space to expand efforts with the following programs:
- Launch of one-on-one financial counseling to the Lubbock community through Knowledge Empowering You (KEY) Outreach Student Organization.
- Additional site for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for PFP students to provide free income tax preparation to low income families.
- Utilize space for experiential learning opportunities to increase practical skills in classes such as Client Communication and Counseling.
Our department has been selected to participate in Giving Tuesday to kick off this project. We are in need of your help! Our goal is to raise $15,000 to fund technology needed to record sessions. This is critical to providing feedback for our students to improve their communication and counseling skills. Please consider contributing to help us raise funds for this exciting project-- a gift of any amount would make a big impact!
