Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. The movement provides everyone with the opportunity to be thankful for what they have and give back to the causes that they care about.
Red Raider Camp is participating in Giving Tuesday because we care about our students. Our goal is to make Red Raider Camp more accessible for more students who will be attending Texas Tech University. Our first goal was to send 10 new Red Raiders to RRC, but we know that with our amazing Red Raider Camp community that we can raise more.
Our goal has increased to $2,700 which will provide 12 students who have financial need with a fee waiver to attend Red Raider Camp free of charge.
Why do we do this? Simply because the experience of Red Raider Camp is special, and its impact extends long into the collegiate careers of our students. Students who attend Red Raider Camp finish their first year with higher GPAs than the first-year average. The credit goes to the security students gain from making connections and learning about what life at Texas Tech will be like.
Students who attend Red Raider Camp meet other incoming students who are entering their first year at Texas Tech just like them, and they build lasting friendships. Alongside their new friends, they develop leadership skills and discuss what the upcoming year holds as they prepare for the changes and endless opportunities that will come their way. Together, they learn about the rich history and traditions of Texas Tech University as we sing the words of the Fight Song and Matador Song so that students can shout them out at their first TTU football game.
Proud Red Raiders inspire others to share in their pride and love for Texas Tech University. Join us in celebrating Giving Tuesday.
